“It is strongly cast… Given Laurence Equilbey’s attentive conducting and uniformly excellent small-role and choral contributions, it is easy to recommend this outing of Hahn’s lovable tribute to un temps perdu.” – OPERA
“This DVD makes available the delightful Ciboulette (1923), Hahn’s most successful (and best known in France) of his three operettas from an engaging 2013 Opéra-Comique staging by Michel Fau. […] The singers’ diction and style provide pleasure throughout. Laurence Equilbey leads her forces with distinction and élan” – OPERA NEWS
“Julie Fuchs has a lovely voice that is put to good use, and her comedic performance is excellent. Julian Behr’s Antonim is quite the simpleton with a beautiful voice. Everyone else sings the songs nicely and acts their parts in the cartoonish way required. … The chorus and orchestra are also very good… ” – AMERICAN RECORD GUIDE
“Michel Fau’s staging is a treat for the eye (Bernard Fau and Citronelle Dufay’s black and white or sepia recreations of 1867 Paris and the countryside are gorgeous as are David Belugou’s costumes), and the orchestra and chorus under Laurence Equilbey are both energetic and spot on in terms of style.
Julie Fuchs delivers a true star turn in the title role, funny, feisty and winsome all at once. Her clean, bright soprano suits both the romance and the musical comedy—her military song is a well-chested riot—and she knows how to deliver the spoken lines as well. Julien Behr’s lovely lyric tenor is ideal for the nice but dim Antonin making his duets with Ciboulette real highpoints (the act-one ‘brother and sister’ duet is a gem).” – LIMELIGHT
